On that note, thanks for not bugging us about not playing Stairway. You all ‘get it’.
(a nice, older couple ‘bugged’ me about not playing Rain Song, which is actually kind of neat)
Thank you, everyone. What an awesome Monday night.
As complimentary as everyone has been (thank you), I want to do it again a little less last-minute so we can really nail it. We practiced 9 hours the day before and were kinda beat.-Ringo can tune a G.D. drum. Jesus, that kick/snare sounds enormous.
Extra thanks to Matt, Jim, & Mr. King for working to help us… uh, kerble, have you revealed the master plan yet?

Back home, back to the office and back to work, albeit with a two day beard and covered in a thin veneer of Rock Gravy. A brother needs a shower.Where do I begin? It was great seeing you all. Like a mini PRF BBQ. I met a lot of you for the first time and got to know a few of you better. I wish more of you would have said hello!
I was glad so many people came.
Way to go, Faiz, for getting us all in one room. Playing with this group of dudes was the most fun I’ve had in awhile.
Not bad for two days of work together.
Such drumming! Such guitar work! Such singing and preening!
And what hospitality. Chez Faiz is a fine place to hang one’s hat for a few days. It has weird cats, loads of coffee and a great vibe.
And Mr. Chimp, you are a good dude, with a great band, a nice practice space and a badass bass rig.
Hope to do it again.
Hire us for your next Bar Mitzvah!

This was a blast; big thanks to everyone for coming out.Light Coma was excellent, really enjoyed the songs. Great to finally meet Patrick and Alex- y’all can bring the rock mightily. (also special thanks to Alex for being an ocean of calm during a shitstorm of confusion)
And a big shout out to matte for the helpful sound advice!

Back in the museum. about to check out, reeling from how much fun I had this week.to Alex, Brian, Patrick and Pete: I am humbled and honored that I could stand so tall on your shoulders. I have never been so impressed by musicians in my entire life. The first time all five of us were together was Sunday at noon. By 10pm monday night, you were a wrecking ball of awesome. Your hard work, astounding skill and scintillating personalities made this as enjoyable as it could have possibly ever been. I can not express how much it means to me. Let’s do this again. I love you like brothers.
Mr Chimp: thank you, life coach, for the use of your fine practice space and the bass and drums, and for one million other things that made this possible.
Light Coma: First off, you were fantastic. second off, jesus, you were fantastic. Moody, heartfelt and beautiful songs played ferociously. Orch, that was the best I’ve heard your voice sound, and I already love the way you sing. Rezvani and Jimp–rock solid, which isn’t much of a surprise. I can’t wait to see you guys again. Also! I have your show money! I will give it to Jimp!
Mr King: your photos are gorgeous as always. thank you so much for your grace and patience in working with a bunch of squirrely rockers. I tip my hat to you.
Jim and Matt(e): thanks for once again (is this the two-dozenth time?) for filming and recording and supporting yet another of my goofy-ass art projects. They should put statues of you up in Humboldt Park.
For your teasing, Jim and Matt had 4 cameras running during the show, as well as a pair of stereo mics, so there’ll be some ace footage coming soon.
Also for your teasing, Brian! the secret plan is slowly leaking out. We’ll leave it to gossip until we get our first “go.”
thank you to everyone who came out on a monday night to watch us do our thing. It means a lot to all of us. salut!
two funny things: someone crumpled up a piece of paper and tossed it on the stage. We didn’t know it was a request until after the show. it just said: “TEN YEARS GONE”. Out of the ten or so songs we learned (out of the whole zep catalog), we actually knew and played the hell out of that one immediately after she requested it. on the recording, you can hear her say “HOW DID THEY DO THAT?” four measures into the song! so weird!

second: this morning, literally, as Patrick and Alex and I were saying our farewells on the porch, a dude walked by my house wearing a Led Zeppelin t-shirt, carrying a staff, walking a Black Dog. The three of us all spotted it. it was unreal. tis a sign, I say.
sweet thing!just for the record, Brian (154) and Pete (MF Nightmen) blew us all away. holy shit. not only did we have the best guitar player. but we also had another the best guitar player. These two are complete hotshots. Like the Yin and Yang of slaying. Two totally different styles, two completely singular talents.
y’all are the best.more soon,
xo

Nothing like staying up all night because you’re too excited to sleep AFTER the gig, then driving from Chicago to Athens.I just got home. I am somewhere beyond tired and into grieving for being able to feel anything at all.
Before I arrived in Chicago on Sunday at noon, I had only met Faiz in person one time and none of the other fellas. 36 hours later, we were sitting at Arturo’s and Faiz and I couldn’t stop laughing at how audaciously incredible the whole experience had been.
Faiz, Alex, Brian, Pete… as I said in my email I sent just minutes ago, I will repeat here- I feel like I am missing four teeth knowing that we won’t play music together again tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that.
Mr. Chimp- thanks for the generous use of your amazing sounding drum kit. Sorry I broke your kick drum head on the first day. I hope you enjoy the replacement as much as you did the drum’s original head. Light Coma, a couple of moments of your show made me lightheaded, they were so gorgeous. Record. Release. I’ll be first in line.
Chicago PRF- Faiz has an upstairs apartment that needs renting. Give me half a good reason to move my shit. A quarter of a good reason. A scrap of a job… an internship at Electrical…. you had me at “Welcome to Hot Doug’s, what can I getcha?”
So many of you were at the show who I only know by your PRF handles…. I wish I had been able to put names and faces together faster. A couple of you I really wanted to buy a drink.
J&J- I find your partnership inspiring. Have two people ever been better paired? I’m, uh…. sorry I was so goddamn loquacious after the show… I was pretty keyed up. I was having several conversations, I think. Hope I wasn’t bogarting all the air in the car.
Speaking of buying drinks, someone buy that front of house engineer a beverage for me, please. I’ll get you back via paypal or at AwkwardToberPRFest.
Some things I just want to mention before I pass out, as it is now 4am:
1. Yes, there was a man in a leather hat and carrying a long staff, walking a black dog past Faiz’s house this morning as Faiz and Alex were headed to the airport. Yes, he was wearing a Led Zeppelin t-shirt.
2. Learning John Bonham’s parts seemed like something I’d never be able to do. Ever. Greatest rock drummer ever. Some mountains aren’t meant to be climbed. And yet, it was FAIZ asking me to, so I did. I didn’t know I could. Tim Midgett, I actually played that insane fill at the top of the second verse of “Achilles’ Last Stand,” then scanned the room to see if you were there. I remember you mentioning how much you liked that fill somewhere on the forum. Next time!
3. We didn’t plan to do “Dazed and Confused” until right before we packed up to move the gear to the club, and Brian said “Let’s try it one more time and see if we hate it.” High point of the night for me. Loved it at the show.
4. Alex kept trying to tell me that the “Achilles” to “Communication Breakdown” segue was my idea.
Alex, in an email dated 14 July wrote:An idea-
Since Achilles’ is so long, I thought after maybe the second “machine
gun part” which I think is 6 minutes into this seemingly endless song,
we could just drop to E and drive it home with Communication
Breakdown.
Proof positive of ownership, sir.
4. And finally… two words:
“Brown Sabbath.”
Y’smell what I’m cooking? Someone’s gotta open for us next time…. might as well be us!
